I'll Be Here Anyway

As of late, I've felt a stirring
that, it seems, is reoccurring
and retains a certain sadness when you're gone.
It's a cold and bleak sensation
that resists alleviation
and can seize my thoughts at any time of day,

and I always feel this sorrow
when today becomes tomorrow
and you're never at my side before the Dawn.
But, in spite of how it's hurtin',
I've been weighted with a burden,
and I can't exactly up and go away.
So I'll be here anyway.

(Short interlude)

Dear companion, whom I treasure,
long ago, too long for measure,
we encountered where the voices swirl around,
and while we were both befriending,
some new, nascent, never-ending,
warm affection was conceived, and lives today.

Then I loved you once in passing;
our affections therein massing
took us once into the sky, then to the ground.
And since then, I've further known you,
so that I could not disown you.
When did friendship turn to fire? Who can say?
But I'll be here anyway.

(Main interlude)

Now and then you come to visit,
though not often, as we wish it,
and I feel that pang of sadness when you're gone.
But it isn't all that tragic,
'cause this world's full of magic,
and it helps to know I'm learning of its ways.

Now I seldom feel that sorrow
when today becomes tomorrow,
and you're always in my dreams before the Dawn.
When the time comes to depart,
you can take this in your heart—
honest friendships never vanish with the day,
and I'll be here anyway.
